Dan Cooperman

OPERA America
Director of Development
New York, NY
Dan Cooperman joined OPERA America in February 2015 as director of development. He previously served as director of development for BalletX, a contemporary ballet company in Philadelphia, from 2012–2015, during which time the company's budget grew by 40 percent. Cooperman's interest in opera is rooted in his academic study of music history. He graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in music and German studies and McGill University with an M.A. in music history, specializing in contemporary repertoire from the 20th century, including the operas of Hans Werner Henze. In 2012, he presented lectures and educational materials for Opera Philadelphia's production of Henze's Elegy for Young Lovers with the Curtis Institute of Music. Cooperman holds certificates in fundraising from Association of Fundraising Professionals through Villanova University, in grant writing from the Foundation Center, and in financial management from the LaSalle University Nonprofit Center. He has served on grant review panels for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and Philadelphia Cultural Fund.
