Creating an opera has great risks, but also great rewards. It can engage new audiences, invigorate your board and staff, and address issues specific to either your community or larger society. Beginning the process can seem daunting to administrators embarking on it for the first time. This session provides a meeting place for those who want to learn from experienced producers about the fundamentals of commissioning and producing a new opera. Learn how companies begin to look for talent, contract and set terms, and work with publishers.

Noah is the artistic services manager at OPERA America. With a background in producing, non-profit administration and philanthropy, he brings a unique set of skills to the OPERA America team. He co-direct the artistic granting programs at OPERA America, including the New Works Forum Grants (funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation), the Opera Grants for Female Composers program (Funded by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation) and the Repertoire Development Grant (supported by the OPERA fund).
