Michelle Miller Burns

Vice President of Development

Michelle Miller Burns is Vice President of Development at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  In this position she oversees the fundraising program and serves on the senior management team.  She provides strategic direction and develops annual operating plans for the Annual Fund as well as the planned giving program and special fundraising initiatives.

 

Previously, she served as Vice President for Development at the Newberry Library, an independent research library for the humanities in Chicago.  In that role she directed all aspects of the Library’s fundraising program, including strategic planning and execution of annual, endowment, and capital campaigns.

 

Prior to joining the Newberry, Michelle held multiple positions at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. As Director of Planned Giving she was responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individual donors for deferred, planned, and endowed gifts.  She also managed the governance process for the organization and supported the Chairman, President, Trustee leadership, and senior staff in governance activities. 

 

Michelle earned a Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration from Northwestern University and is a graduate of the Chicago Management Institute program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.  She is also an alumna of the League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Management Fellowship Program.

 

Active in professional and volunteer organizations, Michelle serves on the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music Advisory Board and on the board of The Solti Foundation U.S.  She is a past president of the Chicago Council on Planned Giving and the Junior League of Chicago.
